Gum Disease Prevention Treatments From a Periodontist

Gum Disease Prevention Prevention San Diego, CA

Wondering if gum disease prevention is possible using certain treatments? It is indeed possible to use one or more treatments for preventing gum disease, also known as periodontal disease. It is highly recommended that you do everything in your power to prevent a gum disease diagnosis in the first place, as once you are diagnosed, you will need to undergo treatment in order to remove the disease from your mouth.

The longer you live with gum disease, the higher your chances of experiencing oral problems, including a loss of one or more of your teeth.

Different types of gum disease prevention

There are a few different types of gum disease, which relates to its current stage. The first stage of gum disease is gingivitis, which tends to cause the gums to become red, irritated and swollen. Those who have gingivitis will probably not experience much discomfort or pain even though the health of their gums is not currently in tip-top shape.

The second stage of gum disease is periodontitis, which happens when gingivitis is not treated. This second stage means that plaque and tartar are beginning to grow below the gum line, which can introduce bad bacteria into the mouth. If periodontitis is not treated, it can lead to more extreme forms of periodontal disease, e.g., aggressive periodontitis, chronic periodontitis, etc.

Gum disease treatments

The following is a list of gum disease treatments that anyone can use in order to keep their gums healthy:

1. Regular dental checkups

Regular dental checkups are extremely important when it comes to diagnosing gum disease because they are able to diagnose gum disease in its earliest stages. The earlier gum disease treatment is sought, the easier it will be to treat successfully.

2. Proper oral care

It is necessary to follow the recommendations for proper oral care to avoid being diagnosed with gum disease, which includes brushing the teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush at least twice a day for two minutes, gently flossing at least once a day in order to remove anything stuck in between the teeth and using a mouthwash that kills bad bacteria in the mouth.

3. Choosing quality dental products

Choosing dental products that include the ADA Seal of Acceptance is recommended, as these products have undergone tests to evaluate their overall safety and effectiveness. When a toothbrush, toothpaste and/or mouthwash has the ADA seal on its label, it has been determined to be both safe and efficient when it comes to providing people with the proper oral care they need for a healthy mouth.

Are you currently living with gum disease?

Are you looking for gum disease information because you think you have gum disease? As you now know, it can be difficult for you to know whether you have gum disease, because the beginning stages of gum disease often do not cause any discomfort or pain.

It is important that you follow the above prevention treatments to prevent gum disease and to prevent the gums from getting worse. In order for you to know for sure, you’ll need to make an appointment with a dental professional for a full evaluation.
